Its a great Sabbath day in Boston room 38
Dear friends, family and interested persons,
Nan finally had a much better night and when I arrived she was ready and ASKED if we would help her take a walk which we did. She walked the entire pod and then sat in the chair while the aid gave her a sponge bath, Dana brushed her hair and helped Nan feel better. Now she is sleeping a much deserved rest after such a spendid performance. This is the first time she has asked to walk, before Amy or Loren or PT people did the urging and she would agree. But today it was all her idea and she felt great about it. She walked through leg pain, kept going, walked through the walker going sideways, floors are uneven here, walked uphill, more uneven floors and back to her room. I went out last night and found the special walking chair she likes and hit it early this morning in her room.
Now the room is another story. They came in last night to tell her that her roomate was being moved out immediatelly since Nan has some culture growing in her nose. The culture showed up after days growing. The original swab was over in the ICU. Well because of this culture that has no symtoms, no cure, will end on its own Nan must have a private room from now own. So since no private room last night was available they created one by moving her nice roomate out.
We miss the roomate, she was wonderful and informative about the area. The way a doctor explained it this morning was, the culture represents no problem to Nan whatsover. However if she was directly exposed to another patient it could represent a serious problem to that person and with medical personel moving from room to room they could spread it. To head that problem off they wear special yellow gowns and extra glove precautions when working with Nan so they won't spread her culture to to others. we are no problem because we do not see or talk to other patients and would not be spreading it around. However what it means is that instead of paying our of our pockets $70 or more a day for a private room Nan is required to have one now by hospital policy. That is as soon as one pops up. So for now we have this huge room to ourselves and its great.
This room has a flat screen TV, a sink, a full bathroom, two closets, vinyl floor and a ac system which seems to be working overtime, brrr. Dana with her hot flashes loves the temp. I with my shorts freeze. As long as we keep enough blankets on Nan she does fine.
I want to get this encouraging blog out soon. We are having a very good day.
Thanks so much for your prayers for Nan to sleep. She did sleep much better last night and is doing much better than yesterday as well. Renal came by, woke her up of course, but had the good news that for the first time in nearly 4 weeks her creatin went down on its own. That is down without dialysis. BUN is still climbing so we may need dialysis one more time.
Have a very nice day as we plan to here in Boston, Brigham and Womens Hospital, 75 Francis Street, Boston, MA 02115 7B Room 38. Nan's phone number is 617 732 4681.
Our prayer for you is that you have a positive happy Sabbath day.
