Nan's first day home
Dear Family and Friends,
Nan finally reached home about 6 or so last evening and headed to her recliner where Starr joined her. She enjoyed the heating pad, had some hot tea, relaxed a bit and then headed upstairs to bed. With few interruptions she slept most of the night and at around 5 this morning headed down to the recliner again where she bundled up warmly. She was ready for a hot tea and I had my breakfast mocha drink from CostCo. It was a nice moment, sitting side by side, reclining and relaxing before the day dawned. Around 8 she had cold cereal, more hot tea, took her meds and after a while of watching TV she headed back up to rest in her bed. Around noon she came down again where she dined on grilled cheese sandwiches made by chef Timo. They were on sourdough bread with fresh tomato slices from Steve and Keanna's garden, oh so yummy! Sylvia Ahn came back to help about mid day and brought several different kinds of goodies including real yogurts, pudding, whole milk, fruit and other things. She helped Nan have several yummy snacks this afternoon including cinamon bread with peanut butter toast, pudding and some great crackers/cookies with milk. Sylvia went to work on organizing the many boxes of medical supplies we have gathered from hospital visits and ostomy suppliers. She left with several boxes of supplies we no longer need and she is going to try to locate someone who could benefit from them. She organized the supplies we need in such a way that they are easy to use and locate. She also flushed Nan's PICC lines to keep them clean and useful. Her visit was very helpful and left us more organized and with less clutter to contend with. Thanks Sylvia, thanks very much!
Mid afternoon Mary from Travel came to visit. We always enjoy having Mary with us. She brings job and love with her and today brought water melon pieces. For those of you who have been reading the blog you know how much nan has come to enjoy watermelon now. So nan is in 7th heaven with watermelon to eat. Thanks Mary for coming and for the watermelon. We always enjoy your visits and your help.
When everyone was wrapping up their visiting Nan headed for bed again to rest. She is very tired and weak still, weaker than when she was in the hospital it seems. Yet being home takes a lot more energy than being in the hospital where you are catered to constantly and you don't have to worry about anything or do anything really other than just be there. Nan is walking well now and gets about pretty well. Tomorrow I hope we can get out and walk some to start increases her strength again. No walking yesterday, none today, not good!!
Time passes: it is now 9:30 pm. Nan woke up and rode her stair chair down to the living room, walked to the family room and reclaimed her recliner. After hearing all the amazing choices I could prepare she decided on Top Ramin Noodles but she only ate a small amount. Once again she has a head ache and is ready to head up to bed. I'm ready too.
Tomorrow we look forward to having Emily Dunston with us for the afternoon. She has offered to come and sit with Nan which makes my getting out to see properties possible. Not ready to leave Nan alone yet for long periods of time.
This being home again takes some getting used to, sort of a balancing act between caring for Nan and trying to cope with business phone calls, scheduling, reviewing and making decisions regarding appraisals. I'm manage but I'm sure glad I'm not alone in this, I remind myself over and over again how long we have longed to be home and now its a reality which we need to do the best with that we can. We are very grateful for life, for friends, for our precious family and for a loving Heavenly Father.
Please keep us in your prayers that we may make this transition and maintain Nan's health in the process. If I had a wish tonight it would be that Nan would be stronger and more confident in her newfound chance at health.
We send our love, our prayers and our hearts to you all,
tim and nan
