Sunday afternoon - a stroll through the the private garden

Dear Friends and Family,

Nan just made me so proud. In spite of being so grougy which is caused by the Reglan she agreed to walk again, this time to a tiny garden that was created by a nurse. It is located just outside Nan's window but one has to walk down the hall and through a visitors lobby and out. It has a ramp to a sitting area with a large green umbrella, green steel chairs and many different flowers, fruit trees, little decorations. Nan walked up the ramp and sat in one of the chairs in the shade of the umbrella for about 15 minutes, enjoyed the warm breezes and was very lucide. Finally she tired and walked back to her room, now she is under covers trying to get warm again and recover from the exercise. She accomplished this without complaining and handled it well, stable, not winded and demonstrated that her strength is basically good. This Reglan stuff we have experienced before and the last time she finally had to give it up since her kept her so depressed and listless she could hardly function, very much like the present. Its hard to know what to do, like she says, it is being given for a reason, to help her stomach and intestine work better yet she is so out of it that her speech is slurred and she just wants to sleep 24/7.

Dr. M was here, he is the oncologist, took a look at the dressing and requested that it go for a culture. He does not think it is bad since there is no negative odor to the dressing. He did not give us an idea as to when we might be able to take Nan home. We hope tomorrow and we are requesting home health care and home PT as well. Dana called today and plans to come to help out by the end of the week. That would be great.

I am encouraged by Nan's willingness to walk twice today so far and her ability to walk well. Her knees hurt some when she walks but I think it helps her back straighten out a bit. I know she sure sleeps well when she gets back. Nan wants to go home but is so spacey that she hardly knows what is happening it seems. This is no way to get well.

Pam Whitted drove over this morning and was able to spend some time with Nan, that was great and Nan woke up for most of the time she was here. Just now Pam Burge came to visit with her two children, they were very quiet but Nan hardly woke at all having just completed her walk and time outside. They brought some very nice little books that Nan and Keanna can read and listen to together. Very thoughtful! Thanks

I need to settle down and do some work but I am having quite a bit of trouble getting my mind at ease enough to concentrate on work. We are blessed with some new appraisal orders to deal with and the people deserve to get the appraisals back in a timely manner. So I'm going to start work as soon as I complete this blog. I think they may release Nan tomorrow afternoon to go home. We certainly hope so. I hope I can locate some help on tuesday since I am supposed to do inspections on that day. We will see I guess.

We appreciate the kind comments of prayer and love on the blog. Some people have just the right words to say that lift us and give us courage. I have never felt more bleak than the past few days. After such a long time of steady progress to have this setback is very hard to cope with. I long for Nan to have the strength to do what she wants, to go where she wants, to be able to fix the food she wants and play with Keanna. I look forward to the day when Nan will feel good and be happy again.

Since I was last writing we had a nice visit with Emily and Loren Dunston, long time friends from Tracy. Emily is a nurse and is always helpful in determining Nan's condition. Nan was sleeping at first when they came in but woke and talked with them and finally took a walk with Emily. That is her third walk today!! Yea. I walked out with them when they had to go and they gave me some yummy food for the motorhome. While we were in the motorhome Sharon called from Texas and Emily was able to bring her up to speed on Nan's current condition.

When I got back to the room Nan was awake and had her Reglan, now the meal has just arrived, toasted cheese sandwich with tomatos. Hot tea and milk. Does not look bad and she is enjoying eating. Actually looks the best I have seen her look today. Emily thinks she might need some TPN, food in a IV bag to help her regain her strength back. We'll talk to the doctor tomorrow about it and home health care and home physical therapy.

We took a call from Irene who lives in San Jose and is a fellow GISTer. She kindly agreed to come visit Nan for a few hours tomorrow while I work. I warned her to bring a book because Nan might be sleeping at least part of the time she is here. How nice of her to help in this manner. I sure hope we remember to take good care of ailing friends when we get fully back on our feet as we have certainly enjoyed the kindness of others and benefited from it greatly.

Well I really need to work now. Please join me in praying for Nan, for her stomach and GI tract, for her sleepiness, for her strength also. This is one precious lady well worth anything we need to do to help her. Just now Roxanna has called from Conn. and they are talking up a storm. Catching up on the gossip etc.

We hope you have a nice evening, we send out love and deep appreciation for your help and encouragement.

love

tim and nan
